JMB regroups in new pockets: Traditional hideouts abandoned

The members of the outlawed Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) are stated to be regrouping in certain pockets of the country abandoning their traditional hideouts after the arrest of their top IT and bomb experts a few weeks ago.
They are now concentrating in the new pockets to preach their ideology without any trouble, RAB sources said.
The JMB operatives were so long active in Chapainawabganj, Naogaon and Rajshahi. But after the arrest of its IT chief Mohammad Emranul Haque alias Rajib and bomb making expert Mizan from Dhaka, the JMB members have targeted Satkhira, Cox's Bazar and Hill Tracts to carry out Islami mission, according to sources.

If allegation is credible form a neutral probe committee: Barrister Mainul

Former adviser to the caretaker government (CTG) Barrister Mainul Hosein yesterday said if there is any credible evidence of the allegation of serving poison mixed food to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina when she was imprisoned in the sub-jail, then a high level probe committee comprising neutral experts should be formed.
The caretaker government of Dr. Fakhruddin Ahmed was army-backed having collective responsibility and the matter should be viewed accordingly, Barrister Mainul said in a statement adding neither the Prime Minister nor any member of her cabinet has so far raised such allegation.

6 of a family killed in mudslide: Flood situation likely to deteriorate

The flood situation in northern and north-eastern parts of the country is likely to worsen if heavy rains continue both in the country and in neighbouring India, according to sources in the meteorological office.
The situation is likely to deteriorate as the meteorology department (both Bangladesh and India) forecasts for further heavy rainfall over the region for next 24 hrs, sources said.
Meanwhile, a family of six, including four children, were killed as their house collapsed during a mudslide in Habiganj yesterday due to heavy overnight rains.

UN chief barred from meeting Suu Kyi

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said Saturday he was "deeply disappointed" after the reclusive chief of Myanmar's military junta refused to let him meet pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi.
Ban said he had pressed top general Than Shwe on the issue when they met for the second time in two days in the bunker-like capital Naypyidaw, but was told the Nobel Peace laureate was off limits because she is on trial.
"I am deeply disappointed," Ban told reporters on the tarmac at Napyidaw airport before heading to Yangon.

Detectives detected extortion and rivalry for supremacy over the business hub as the main causes of the June 26 Karwanbazar triple murders as they arrested 12 suspects in connection with the killings.
Briefing reporters at the DB office, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner AKM Shahidul Huq yesterday said a horde of 30 criminals were involved in the shootings that left two local Awami League and JP leaders and their one associate.

People’s cooperation needed to ensure proper education

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid said that to ensure proper education for all; people from every section of the society should extend support to the government's initiatives.
"We have no enough capacity as the developed countries have. So we have to work collectively to achieve cherished goal," said the minister while addressing a seminar on "Dhaka University, the Oxford of the East: Past and Present" as chief guest at the Nowab Nowab Ali Chowdhury Senate Building of the Dhaka University yesterday.
